Salma Allam Dance Theater Presents THINGS MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME at Brooklyn Music School, 12/14 & 21

Talented young dancer/choreographer/writer Salma Allam will present her dance/theater piece "Things My Mother Taught Me: a daughter's journey," - a drama in content, a comedy in delivery! Choreography and text are by Salma Allam, and movement and music are inspired by her Egyptian heritage. Two Friday performances, tonight, December 14 & December 21 at 8 PM at the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse, 126 St. Felix Street.

This is the story of the fated journey of a daughter guided, sometimes in the right direction, sometimes in the wrong direction ("I will navigate my own path"), by a mother whose teachings are influenced by principles both ancient and contemporary. Both mother and daughter travel on their parallel paths, watched over by their very overworked guardian angels. With a wisdom and honesty far beyond her years, Salma draws on her life experience to reveal a personal narrative thru dance and text.

The cast features Salma Allam, Elly Mandarakas, Rachel Monahan, Cathy Richards, Penelope Thomas, Therese Whelan, Androniki Prokopiou and Helen Maldonado. Choreography and script: Salma Allam.

Salma Allam is a dancer, actor, choreographer and writer. In addition to her dance work in films and TV shows, she toured with Don Omar through the Americas and has appeared with Germaul Barnes Viewsic Expressions. She received her two-year certificate program at the Merce Cunningham Studio and is currently a dance teacher at the Brooklyn Music School.
