SWIMMING UPSTREAM With Rashad, Washington and More Begins Performances 11/5
Swimming Upstream, a project incubated and coordinated through the Ashé Cultural Arts Center and V-Day with Eve Ensler, playwright of The Vagina Monologues will play at True Colors Theatre Company from November 5th through 16th at the 14th Street Playhouse. It will feature Jasmine Guy, Shirley Knight, Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington and the women of New Orleans.
It will be directed by Kenny Leon with music direction by JMichael
"Experience New Orleans before, during and after the nation’s worst natural disaster, Hurricane Katrina, through the stories of women who lived to tell about it. An affirmation of their own strength through raw, lyrical, soulful stories of how they lived through the flood with grace, rage and great resiliency punctuated by a flair for story telling, humor and music that comes from being New Orleanian," describe press notes of the show.About True Colors Theatre Company:
"The name True Colors reflects a promise to search for truth and clarity. By understanding our true colors, we can better understand each other. We intend to be an important voice in the discussion of diversity, functioning as a moveable feast of theatre. We will explore plays and playwrights from various times, cultures and perspectives."
