SWEET TOOTH tells the story of Nora and Vail, two whip-smart high school seniors who have just learned they are about to become stepsiblings. Exiled from the house by their smitten parents, they steal a case of beer, and climb up an abandoned train platform to figure it all out.

At the helm of the project are director Gina Rattan (Resident Director: Billy Elliot, How Deep is The Ocean? NYMF 2012) and Z. N Lupetin (The Dustbowl Revival). The cast features Emily Kron (These Seven Sicknesses) and Sam Gedymin (Virtually Me!).

The piece appealed to the director for a long time “I’ve always been drawn to the lyrical yet raw immediacy of ZN’s language as well as his vibrant realistic characters. Being a child of divorce I found the exploration of love in this piece to be strikingly truthful. Passionate, yet cold, cynical yet hopeful, Nora and Vail have a desire for connection but do not trust in the validity of those feelings. Their usual adolescent vulnerability is amplified through their cultivated belief that nothing, especially those things we set out to do with the best intentions, will work out right.

Lupetin has often said that his goal as a playwright and musician is to explore the surreal and mysterious ties that bring and keep people together. A darkly comedic play, the characters in SWEET TOOTH examine just that. Together they try to create an equation to determine if true love is possible. The test subjects: each other.
