The entire cast of Superior Donuts and representatives of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), will participate in the closing bell ceremony at The New York Stock Exchange. During this most recent fundraising period that ended at the beginning of December, Superior Donuts was the number one fundraising play on Broadway raising over $75,000 to add to the grand total of over $4.6 million raised for BC/EFA.
Superior Donuts tells the story of Arthur who owns a decrepit donut shop in the uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Franco Wicks, a black teenager who is his only employee, wants to change the shop for the better. This comedy-drama, set in the heart of one of Chicago's most diverse communities, explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship. The play stars Jane Alderman, Kate Buddeke, Cliff Chamberlain, Michael Garvey, Jon Michael Hill, Michael McKean, Robert Maffia, James Vincent Meredith, and Yasen Peyankov.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation's leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 BC/EFA has raised over $175 million for essential services for people with AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.
BC/EFA is the major supporter of seven programs at The Actors' Fund - including The AIDS Initiative, The Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, The Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, The Dancers' Resource and three supportive housing residences.
