STC's WHEN THE RAIN STOPS FALLING Extended Until 20 June

By:

Due to popular demand, When The Rain Stops Falling by Andrew Bovell, presented as part of Sydney Theatre Company’s 2009 Main Stage Season will run until 20 June, instead of closing on 13 June as previously advertised.  The extension follows Sydney critics’ praise for this “beautiful, profoundly moving drama” (Sunday Telegraph) from Adelaide’s Brink Productions, giving it ratings of ‘four-and-a-half out of five’ and ‘nine-out-of-ten’.  A new production of Bovell’s play, directed by Michael Attenborough has only just opened at London’s Almeida Theatre.

The Australian production directed by Brink Artistic Director Chris Drummond, combines the talents of leading stage and screenwriter Andrew Bovell (Lantana, Head On, Strictly Ballroom) with the designs of acclaimed visual artist Hossein Valamanesh.  The production features the original cast and creative team from its debut at the Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts in 2008.

The Sydney Theatre Company run has already sold over 18,000 tickets for more than $1 million.

From the claustrophobia of a small 1950s London flat to the windswept coast of South Australia and into the heart of the Australian desert, When The Rain Stops Falling is set against a backdrop of a dramatically changing climate and an uncertain future.  The play interweaves a series of connected stories, as seven people confront the mysteries of their past in order to understand their future, revealing how patterns of betrayal and abandonment are passed on.

Director Chris Drummond. Designer Hossein Valamanesh. Composer Quentin Grant. Lighting Designer Niklas Pajanti. Video Design TheimaGen. Producer Kay Jamieson.

Cast Paul Blackwell, Michaela Cantwell, Carmel Johnson, Kris McQuade, Yalin Ozucelik, Anna Lise Phillips, Neil Pigot and musician Quentin Grant.
