It seemed safe enough...a group of television's nerdiest residents who just want to sing on Fox television. However, it was perhaps only a matter of time before The O'Reilly Factor's Bill O'Reilly found issue with his network's hit comedy GLEE. Last night, O'Reilly dedicated a special segment of his program to discussing the dangers and insensitivity of GLEE for its stabs at conservatives Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin during the Power of Madonna episode that aired on Tuesday.
In one of GLEE's scenes the guidance counselor laments the lack of positive role models for young girls these days, saying ""You've got Britney Spears and her shaved head. Lindsey Lohan looks like something out of Lord of the Rings. Ann Coulter."
Later on in the show, Sue Sylvester scolds two of her Cherrios: "you must be two of the stupidest teens I have ever encountered, and that's saying something...I once taught a cheerleading seminar to a young Sarah Palin."
Well, this did not sit well with the GOP's most loyal follower, prompting a vent on how television shows unfairly mock conservatives more than liberals and how GLEE is dangerously indoctrinating the youth.
Unfortunately for O'Reilly, he failed to find support from his guest, Fox news anchor Jane Skinner, who - like most - got the joke.
Recent winner of the People's Choice Award for Best New Comedy and Golden Globe winner for Best Television Series Comedy or Musical, GLEE, the new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who - against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach - attempts to save McKinley High's Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential.
The show, which also garnered Golden Globe recognition, stars Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz.
GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.
GLEE airs at 9:00pm on Fox Tuesdays.
