STAGE TUBE: Preview THE WINDOW's Site-Specific 4 ALICE, Now thru 5/29
The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York presents this month the second installment of THE WINDOW, a site specific performance conceived as a Romanian-American collaboration with acclaimed US-based artists.
Following the successful first production of THE WINDOW, which paired Obie winners set designer Nic Ularu and playwright Samuel D. Hunter, designer Daniela Codarcea Kamiliotis (from Ralph Lauren) has transformed RCINY's storefront gallery, for which acclaimed playwright Saviana Stanescu wrote 4 ALICE, a 20-minute play inspired by the space and with the constraint that the text may not be heard by the audience, who can only watch from the street.
Can you REWIND/REPLAY a moment of your life? Can a playwright write a beautiful play knowing her words can't be heard? These are the questions asked/answered by 4 ALICE. Saviana's play challenges the conventions of traditional theatre, creating a unique experience: people watch it from the street, stop by for a minute or 20, comment, gawk, smoke, eat, leave with a smile on their faces. Theatre can be a joyful, beautiful and playful experience.
4 ALICE, a play written for THE WINDOW by Saviana Stanescu, features set design by Daniela Codarcea Kamiliotis, choreography by Melanie S. Armer, light design by Stephen Arnold, video design by Igor Molochevski & Masha Pekurovsky, and is directed by Ana Mirgineanu with assistant director Patricia Masera. 4 ALICE features Robin Johnson, Nick Smerkanich and Inés Garcia.
The production plays from May 23 to 29. See The Window come alive again every 20 minutes between 8-10 pm. Admission is free. The Window is located at the RCINY Storefront Window, 573 – 577 Third Avenue, at 38th Street. Subway: 4,5,6,7,S to 42nd/Grand Central.
