Last fall, Dave Malloy's electropop opera NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 premiered at New York City's Ars Nova in a seven-week sold out run. This spring, the Comet will land again, in a big way, at Kazino - a brand new venue created specifically for the show. Audiences will be transported to a Russian supper club, complete with an authentic Russian menu and bar, by way of a temporary structure that will rise at the corner of West 13th Street and Washington Street - wedged between The High Line and The Standard Hotel in the heart of New York's meatpacking district.
BroadwayWorld brings you a just-released promo for the show below!
Following the Ars Nova engagement, producers Howard & Janet Kagan were approached with numerous transfer options ranging from traditional theaters to raw spaces before deciding to create a wholly original space inspired by the show itself, in partnership with Randy Weiner and Simon Hammerstein. Randy Weiner, producer of the immersive-theatre phenomenon Sleep No More, and Simon Hammerstein, the international nightlife impresario, together created perennial New York hotspot The Box (New York, London) and its sister club, The Act (Las Vegas, Dubai). Their latest creation, Kazino, will open its doors May 1 with the first preview of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 and will remain open through September 1 only. An official opening night will be announced at a later date.
Tickets are now on sale www.thegreatcometof1812.com. The performance schedule is as follows: Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday through Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday 2pm and 7pm.
