STAGE TUBE: Looking Back at the History of Shakespeare in the Park!

By:

Shakespeare in the Park is one of New York City's most beloved summer traditions. New York natives and visitors alike have been enjoying free Shakespeare in Central Park since performances began in 1954. Now 57 years after Joseph Papp first conceived the project, The Public Theater continues to produce Shakespeare in the Park.

With the success of last summer's Shakespeare in the Park productions of The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale, the 2011 Shakespeare in the Park summer season is once again presenting two Shakespeare plays in repertory, giving audiences eight straight weeks of free Shakespeare at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

Go back through the history and legacy of Shakespeare in the Park with a feature from Time magazine - view it below!
