SLEEPING BEAUTY Comes To HERE Arts Center 9/28-10/2
HERE proudly presents Sleeping Beauty, set to play September 28 - October 2 in the Dorothy B. Williams Theatre at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue). The first presentation of Dream Music Puppetry Program's 12th season, this production from international puppet artist Colette Garrigan is a creative retelling of the Briar Rose tale filled with captivating artistry and wicked humor. Appropriate for ages 13+. Left to her own devices and brilliant imagination, a modern day Princess pays off her debts and takes her skeletons out of the cupboard once and for all. A passionate account about the loss of innocence that's more nightmare than fairytale and brimming with dark humor, Sleeping Beauty is performed through shadow puppetry, object theater and monologue. Watch as forks become a forest and a toaster rack turns into a shopping center, as Liverpool-born French-transplant puppeteer Colette Garrigan uses her own shadow combined with various unusual objects accompanied by stream-of-consciousness narration as she literally races and jumps across the stage. Created by Colette Garrigan with France's La Cie. Akselere, this production arrives in the U.S. after an acclaimed international tour.
Sleeping Beauty plays Tuesday, September 28 - Saturday, October 2 at 7:00 PM, with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
