'SESSIONS' Launches Official Off-Broadway Run 1/14/09

Consistently drawing large audiences to its exceptional previews, award-winning playwright Al Tapper's original musical SESSIONS, playing at Manhattan's brand new Algonquin Theater (123 East 24th Street-between Lexington and Park Avenues), launches its official Off-Broadway run Wednesday, January 14, 2009 (7:00 PM).

Tony Nominee Liz Larsen (The Most Happy Fella) will join the previously announced cast which features by John Hickok (Little Women) and Maya Days (AIDA), and also includes Al Bundonis, Natalie Buster, Scott Richard Foster, Ken Jennings, Kelli Maguire and Sky Seals.
Al Tapper, who wrote the book, music and lyrics for SESSIONS, is perhaps best known as producer of the critically acclaimed documentary, "Broadway: The Golden Age."
SESSIONS enjoyed a limited run at Peter Jay Sharp Theater's summer 2007 engagement, where it played to sold-out houses, received standing ovations, and got positive reviews from Joe Franklin, Barbara Mehlman, and Lou Powsner of Courier-Life Publications.
SESSIONS centers around Dr. Peter Peterson, an affluent New York therapist who discovers his own life is as much in need of examination as those of his patients. Among those causing Dr. Peterson angst are the bickering Murphys, the loner George, the aptly named Sunshine, the troubled Mary, the millionaire Baxter, and Dylan who really believes he is THAT (Bob) Dylan. On top of it all is Leila, the femme fatale with eyes...and long, long legs...for Dr. Peterson.
SESSIONS is Directed by Thomas Coté, Choreographed by Penny Ayn Maas (with additional choreography by James Horvath), and features Musical Direction and Arrangements by Steven Gross.
Algonquin Theater Productions has renovated the former Blue Heron Arts Center specifically for the purpose of remounting the show in their first-class 99-seat Kaufman Theater.
