SECOND SUBURB Returns to Grosse Point, 5/14
Grosse Pointe's comedy tradition is returning for one night only May 14 at 8 p.m. The show features satire on Grosse Pointe life and pop culture. It was written by eight Grosse Pointe South students.
The improv troupe was formed two decades ago. It was initially funded by Grosse Pointe South but was later cut due to controversial material. When it was sponsored by South the group received funding from the school, now the money for the venue and props are completely paid for by the students involved.
The troupe was revived two years ago after a three year hiatus, performing for the first time outside Grosse Pointe. It premiered to rave reviews and a sold out show. Last year, it had two shows at City Theatre and had over 700 in attendance.
The eight member cast has been writing the show since January. It is focused on life in Grosse Pointe and at Grosse Pointe South High School.
The performance will take place at Music Hall in downtown Detroit. The cast is very excited to have a bigger venue than years past, with a great location in the heart of Detroit. The show will begin at 7:30 with a performance by Grosse Pointe band Lucky Mile.
Tickets are ten dollars, and are available at Gelato Cafe on Fisher Road in Grosse Pointe Farms. For more information see www.facebook.com/secondsuburb
Troupe members include seniors John Dennehy, Nora Beierwaltes, Mike Esse, Richard Altovilla, Jess Martinelli, and Aaron Mucciante, and juniors Meredith Bury and Olivia Ray.
