Rover Dramawerks Announces LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE Auditions

Auditions:
Sunday, April 3 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Monday, April 4 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Callbacks will be Thursday, April 7.

Auditions will be at Rover Dramawerks' office space, 521 J Place, Suite 629,
between Plano Parkway and the Bush Turnpike, a half block west of Avenue K.

Brief Synopsis:
Little Mary Sunshine is a charming musical spoof in the vein of Gilbert and Sullivan. With stalwart Forest Rangers, a sweet and lovely heroine and her "naughty" sidekick, a chorus of simpering school girls, and a villainous Indian, it pokes fun at the overly earnest heroes and heroines, dastardly villains and every coquettish soubrettes of bygone eras. Containing thundering choruses, schmaltzy waltzes, lilting duets, and deliberately corny songs, it will quickly win your heart. One of the most successful ever Off Broadway stage shows!

Roles:

Women:
Little Mary Sunshine (Soprano): 20s-30s. Owner of the Colorado Inn. Warm-hearted, generous, the heroine.

Mme Ernestine Von Liebedich (Contralto): 50s-70s. Kind, motherly with a hint of diva.

Nancy (Soprano): 20s. Little Mary's Maid. Saucy, man mad.

Young Ladies from the Eastchester Finishing School: to play late teens/early 20s, all are singing roles:
Cora (the leader and voice of reason)
Henrietta (bored with being good and wants some excitement)
Gwendolyn (wants to follow Henrietta but not quite sure of herself)
Maud (enthusiastic about everything)
Blanche (prim)
Mabel (actually the most adventurous, hidden depths)

Men:
Corporal Billy Jester (Tenor/High Baritone): 20s. A Forest Ranger. Earnest, eager.

Captain ‘Big Jim' Warington (Baritone): 30s-40s. Captain of the Forest Rangers. Strong, upright, handsome, the hero.

ChieF Brown Bear (Non singing role): 40s-60s. Chief of the Kadota Indians. Wise, serene, a sense of humor.

Fleet Foot (Non singing role): Elderly. An Indian Guide. Doddery, but intent on helping Captain Jim track down Yellow Feather.

Yellow Feather (Non singing role): 20s-30s. ChieF Brown Bear's son. The villain.

General Oscar Fairfax, Retired (Baritone): 60s-70s. A Washington Diplomat. Aging roué.

Forest Rangers: 20s-30s. Honest, generous, brave. Six available, all are singing roles.

All roles are available.

Other Information:
• It is highly recommended that you be familiar with the script before auditioning. Please email audition09@roverdramawerks.com for an appointment, and you will be given access to a script.

• Please prepare 16 bars from a Broadway show. Bring sheet music in the correct key.

• Be prepared for cold readings from the script.

• Dress to move - there will be a short dance call.

• A resume and head shot is requested.

• Actors and technicians will receive stipends.

• Rehearsals will begin the week of May 30 in Plano.
