Spiderwoman Theater and Loose Change Productions invite you to: Indigenous Culture and Contemporary Performance: A round table discussion moderated by Louis Mofsie, Director of the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers.

Participants include Diane Fraher of AMERINDA; Danielle Soames of Mixed Phoenix Theatre; Joe Cross of Leaf Arrow Theater; Muriel Miguel, Lisa Mayo, and Gloria Miguel, founding members of Spiderwoman Theater.

Native artists in theater, art and film are doing riveting, cutting-edge work - much still, surprisingly, operating under the radar. This eye-opening panel will introduce the audience to some of the most interesting practitioners in this community - and will include a heartfelt discussion about challenges faced: how does Native theater cope with stereotypes and clichés that still exist, surprisingly, even in this supposedly "aware" post-Colonial world. (Neil TK's film "Reel Injun" at MoMA in June will explore the question of clichés in the world of cinema.)

WHEN:
Sunday, May 30, 2010, 4:30-6:00pm
Immediately following the 2:30 performance of Spiderwoman Theater's "Red Mother"

WHERE:
La Mama E.T.C.
First Floor Theatre
74A East 4th Street, NYC

Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.

"Red Mother" runs May 27 through June 6, 2010.
