Roger Rees Extends THE ADDAMS FAMILY Run Through Closing on December 31

Roger-Rees-Extends-ADDAMS-FAMILY-Run-Through-December-31-20010101

Tony Award winner Roger Rees has extended his contract and will continue as Gomez in the hit musical THE ADDAMS FAMILY for an additional two months through the show's final performance on Saturday, December 31 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street). Rees plays opposite stage and screen star Brooke Shields as Morticia.

Rees joined THE ADDAMS FAMILY on March 22, immediately after he had co-directed with Alex Timbers the acclaimed production of Peter and the Starcatcher, written by Rick Elice, at the New York Theatre Workshop. He began his career with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he created the title role in the legendary production of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, for which he received the Olivier Award in London and the Tony Award in New York. Other New York credits include the Flaherty/Ahrens musical A Man of No Importance for Lincoln Center Theater (Mitzi Newhouse); Indiscretions, for which he was nominated for Tony and Drama Desk Awards as Best Actor, and the Roundabout productions of Uncle Vanya and The Rehearsal. Off-Broadway he starred in The End of the Day (for which he received an Obie Award) and The Uneasy Chair at Playwrights Horizons; also, The Misanthrope at Classic Stage Company. In London, he starred in the original productions of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing and Hapgood; Double, Double; and for the RSC, as Hamlet, Love's Labour's Lost, Cymbeline, Much Ado About Nothing and The Suicide. Last year, he appeared with Ian McKellen in the acclaimed West End production of Waiting for Godot at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. Television credits include Cheers, Warehouse 13 and The West Wing.

The national tour of THE ADDAMS FAMILY launched September 15 at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre for the Performing Arts in New Orleans and is booked in more than 30 cities through 2012. International productions of THE ADDAMS FAMILY are set to open in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the spring of 2012 and Sydney, Australia in spring 2013, with several more international productions to be announced soon.

The Broadway cast of THE ADDAMS FAMILY also stars Brad Oscar as Fester, Rachel Potter as Wednesday, Jackie Hoffman as Grandma, Zachary James as Lurch, Adam Riegler as Pugsley, Heidi Blickenstaff as Alice Beineke, Adam Grupper as Mal Beineke and Jesse Swenson as Lucas Beineke.

Based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, THE ADDAMS FAMILY features a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. The production is directed and designed (sets and costumes) by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, with creative consultation by Jerry Zaks and choreography by Sergio Trujillo. Lighting design is by Natasha Katz, sound design is by Acme Sound Partners and puppetry is by Basil Twist.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY is produced on Broadway by Stuart Oken, Roy Furman, Michael Leavitt, Five Cent Prods., Stephen Schuler, Decca Theatricals, Scott M. Delman, Stuart Ditsky, Terry Allen Kramer,
Stephanie P. McClelland, James L. Nederlander, Eva Price, Jam Theatricals/Mary Lu Roffe, Pittsburgh CLO/Gutterman-Swinsky, Vivek Tiwary/Gary Kaplan, The Weinstein Co./Clarence, LLC and Adam Zotovich/Tribe Theatricals, by special arrangement with Elephant Eye Theatrical.
