Robert Cuccioli, the Tony nominated star of Jekyll and Hyde, will play Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr. in an upcoming industry reading of the musical Ghostlight. Ghostlight, which has book, music and lyrics by Matthew Martin and Tim Realbuto, tells the true story of Ziegfeld Follies girl and silent film star Olive Thomas, her rise to fame in the Follies alongside Fanny Brice, her affair with a married Ziegfeld, her Hollywood marriage to movie star Jack Pickford, and ultimately her tragic downfall which led to her mysterious death at age 25 in Paris.
Ghostlight had a sold-out and extended run at Off-Broadway's Signature Theatre in 2011 as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. It was directed by the creators Martin and Realbuto. The revamped version will be presented to industry professionals in early December at The New 42nd Street Studios in NYC. Aside from Cuccioli, the reading will also star Trevor McQueen (Broadway's Annie Get Your Gun) as Jack Pickford and Kimberly Faye Greenberg (One Night With Fanny Brice, Danny and Sylvia), who will reprise her role of Fanny Brice from the NYMF production. Casting of the ensemble and the three other female leads, including the central role of Olive Thomas, will be announced shortly.
Although the reading is closed to the public, the creators have initiated a raffle to anyone who donates to their IndieGoGo campaign. The winner of the raffle will receive two seats to the special event. You can donate to Ghostlight and enter the raffle at http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ghostlight-a-new-musical
Cuccioli was nominated for a Tony and received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for playing the title roles in the original cast of Broadway's Jekyll and Hyde. He has appeared on Broadway as Javert in Les Miserables and is currently starring as Dr. Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin in Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark. His acclaimed solo CD, The Look of Love, was released in 2012. He also starred Off-Broadway in Jaques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris and as Chief Franklin on CBS's "Guiding Light."
McQueen played Little Jake in the original revival cast of Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway opposite Bernadette Peters. His regional credits include West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast, and The Rocky Horror Show. His solo show, A Boy With Dreams, played NYC's Triad Theatre and he is a frequent headliner at Birdland Jazz Club.
Greenberg is the first and only actress in NYC to have performed leading roles in two legit Off-Broadway musicals at the same time: receiving critical acclaim for playing Fanny Brice
in the solo show One Night With Fanny Brice (nomination for Best Solo Performance, 2011 Patrick Lee ITBA Award & Cast Album available on Original Cast Records), and as Sylvia Fine in Danny and Sylvia, a role she played for nearly three years. She starred in Actor's Fund benefits of Miracle on 34th Street and Mr. President, as well as the original NYMF production of Ghostlight. Her television credits include "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", "Charmed", and "ER." She is the host of "Personal Best" and "Broadway Backstage."
