Roald Dahl's 'Big Friendly Giant' Stomps into SCR, November

By:

Beloved author Roald Dahl's tale of a 24-foot giant will amaze audiences young and old when South Coast Repertory's Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) presents The BFG (Big Friendly Giant).  Adapted by David Wood and directed by Anne Justine D'Zmura, The BFG will run from November 2 - 18 on the Julianne Argyros Stage.

Low-priced previews are available from November 2 - 9.  Opening day is November 10. All children who attend the 11AM Target Family Performance on Saturday, November 10 will receive a free gift.  Tickets to The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) may be purchased online at www.scr.org, by phone at 714-708-5555 or in person at the SCR box office.

"Last year's production of Dahl's James and the Giant Peach played to packed houses of enthusiastic youngsters, their parents and grandparents.  Dahl is also the author of the classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  The story of The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) unfolds as a 24-foot giant lumbers onstage and whisks away a little girl.  But The BFG is no ordinary giant.  He'll take Sophie on a fantastical journey in a land of mixed-up language and make-believe, where amazingly happy dreams can be caught with a net and blown into the ears of children," explain press notes.

The cast of The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) features Larry Bates (Daniel, Bloodbottler, Classmate, Ronald, Head of Army), David DeSantos (The Sams, Bonecruncher, Classmate, Head of Air Force), Dawn-Lyen Gardner (Katherine, Meatdripper, Classmate, Mary), Kate James (Sophie), Louis Lotorto (Guy, Fleshlumpeater, Headteacher, Mr.Tibbs), Jennifer Parsons (Rebecca, Gizzardgulper, Undermaid, Queen of Sweden) and Amy Tolsky (Mum, Childchewer, Miss Pulmridge, Queen of England).

Tickets to The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) can be purchased online at www.scr.org, by phone at 714-708-5555 or by visiting the box office at 655 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa.  Performances begin on Nov. 2 and continue through Nov. 18.   Ticket prices range from $16 to $27.  Low-priced preview performances are available from November 2-9.

Previews:  Friday, November 2 & 9 at 7:PM, Saturday, November 3 at 4:30PM and Sunday, November 4 at 2PM.  Regular Performances:  Saturday, November 10 at 11AM (Target Family Performance), 2PM & 4:30PM, Sunday, November 11 at 2PM & 4:30PM, Friday, November 16 at 7PM, Saturday, November 17 at 2PM, 4:30PM & 7:30PM and Sunday, November 18 at 2PM & 4:30PM.  Discounts are available for children 12 years and younger.  The Target Family Performance is Saturday, November 10 at 11AM with an earlier performance time and lower ticket price thanks to Target, title sponsor of the Target Family Performances.
