Rene Syler to Host LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER Event 5/6 at The JCC in Manhattan

On Sunday, May 6^th at 2pm at The JCC in Manhattan, LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER, a national (ten-city) series of readings in celebration of all aspects of motherhood, will take center stage in the Big Apple. The mission of each LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER production is to give voice to motherhood in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor. In this third year of the series, nearly 150 authors, writers, bloggers and performers across the country will read their own essays which give voice to the beauty, beast, and barely-rested of motherhood.

The May 6^th NYC performance will be hosted by TV personality, author and blogger Rene Syler. Syler anchored CBS News' The Early Show from 2002-2006. She has also made guest appearances on shows such as The View, The Nate Berkus Show, The Wendy Williams Show and CNN Headline News. Since publishing Good Enough Mother: The Perfectly Imperfect Book of Parenting in 2007, Syler has launched and grown her hugely popular website www.GoodEnoughmother.com, which serves as a forum to discuss a range of topical parenting issues. 

The NYC show is being directed by Broadway and TV actress, The Huffington Post contributor, and author Amy Wilson, whose bookWhen Did I Get Like This? The Screamer, the Worrier, the Dinosaur-Chicken-Nugget-Buyer, and Other Mothers I Swore I'd Never Bewas published in 2010. LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER is being produced by Varda Steinhardt with Holly Rosen Fink as Associate Producer. The NYC production will be donating 10% of proceeds to Room to Grow, a non-profit organization focused on providing developmental services to young children. 

The May 6^th show at the JCC will feature readings from author Abby Sher (whose memoir, Amen, Amen, Amen: Memoir of a Girl Who Couldn’t Stop Praying was published by Scribner in 2009), former Managing Editor of The New York Observer Una LaMarche,actress, producer and writer Alysia Reiner (who appeared in the Oscar-winning film Sideways and is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post), Letters From My Sister author and a frequent performer at The Moth Eve Lederman, writer Howard Margulies(brother of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies), communications expert and former Editor-in-Chief of The American Breast Cancer Guide Estelle Sobel Erasmus, writer Kathy Curto (whose essays have been featured on NPR), and bloggers/writersPatty Chang Anker, Deborah Goldstein, Kathy Mayer, Kirsten Piccini, Jonny Schremmer and Ilana Wiles.

Born out of the creative work of mothers who publish online, every LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show is produced, written, and cast locally, offering a meaningful way to celebrate motherhood each May. Each show’s process, from auditions to rehearsal to final performances are shared via social media and in the blogosphere, creating a unique hyper-local hybrid of live and digital offerings. All performances are made available online for everyone to see and experience.

Prior to the NYC performance, LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER will be performed in Austin and Northwest Arkansas on April 29^th. On May 6^th it will also be performed in Chicago and Washington, DC. Following May 6^th it will be performed in Northwest Indiana andSan Francisco on May 10^th, Philadelphia on May 11^th, and Spokane, Washington and Madison, Wisconsin on May 13^th. For more information, please visit www.ListenToYourMotherShow.com.
