The Toronto Theatre Critics' Award just announced their 2014 winners. The awards are in their fourth year, and are voted upon by Toronto critics who represent five of the city's newspapers and weeklies: The Globe and Mail (J. Kelly Nestruck); The Grid (Martin Morrow); NOW (Glenn Sumi); The National Post (Robert Cushman); and the Toronto Star (Richard Ouzounian). Shows which opened between June 2013 and May of 2014 were open for consideration.

Soulpepper theatre came out on top with a total of five wins, Canadian stage came in second with three wins, and Ross Petty Productions and Mirvish Productions each had two wins.

Notable winners include Ramin Karimloo, who played Jean Valjean in Toronto before taking the role to New York, and James Monroe Iglehart who brought Aladdin's Genie to life in the Pre-Broadway tryout of the show. Both Karimloo and Iglehart are also nominated for Tony Awards in their respective eligible categories.

Could these results be indicative that these actors will take home Tony Awards on June 8th?

BroadwayWorld was able to catch up with Iglehart and talk to him about his win. He told us "I'm extremely excited & honored to receive this award. I had such a great time doing Aladdin for the Toronto audiences and I thank them and the Toronto Theatre Critics for allowing me to be my silly self and enjoying it as well. Thank you so much!"
