Rachel York Journeys INTO THE WOODS At Reagle 6/17-27

By:

Opening Reagle Music Theatre's 42nd consecutive season on June 18th is the classic Into the Woods starring Broadway powerhouse Rachel York. York recently won the 2009 Irne Award for Best Musical Actress for her critically praised turn as the title character in Reagle's Hello, Dolly! That production was part of the group's "Salute to Jerry Herman" season last summer. York now returns in mid June to portray The Witch in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's original fairy tale Into the Woods.

In the plot, the key characters (some new and some familiar) set out into the woods on a quest. Act One views each one pursuing his own "happily-ever-after." The musical's second half explores what happens after "happily-ever-after" as the characters confront giants, mayhem, conflict and disenchantment. In the end, they discover that perhaps happiness is simply best found in living the tale and turning the pages.

Nominated for Best Musical and running close to three years on Broadway, the humorous and touching Lapine-Sondheim tale leaves audiences spellbound, with its delightful characters and bewitching score. A full pit orchestra adds a sumptuous sound to Stephen Sondheim's remarkably clever and lush compositions.

Local broadcasting personality Scott Wahle, a past Irne Winner for Best Actor, assumes the multiple roles of the Narrator and The Mysterious Man. Wahle won his Irne Award as Harold Hill in The Music Man - a role he is repeating this July opposite Broadway's Sarah Pfisterer as Marian.

Other featured Into the Woods performances include; Douglas Jabara as The Baker, Shannon Lee Jones as The Baker's Wife, McCaela Donovan as Cinderella and Ayal Miodovnik doubling in the witty roles of Cinderella's Prince and The Wolf.

Also appearing are Greg Stone as Jack, Allison Russell as Little Red Riding Hood, Brennan Roach as Rapunzel's Prince, Krista Buccellato as Rapunzel, Catherine Lee Christie as Jack's Mother, Betsy Foley as Cinderella's Stepmother, Katie Ford as Cinderella's Mother and Red's Granny, Emily Goldberg as Florinda and Sleeping Beauty, Elizabeth Berg as Lucinda and Snow White and Jack F. Agnew as Cinderella's Father.

Into the Woods runs from June 17 - 27.
