REQUIEM FOR A LOST GIRL Plays NYMF, 7/17 & 18

Originally commissioned by the Land's End Chamber Ensemble, REQUIEM FOR A LOST GIRL had its world premiere at the Canadian International Festival of the Arts, The High Performance Rodeo, Jan 16, 2010. Throughout 2009 Onalea created a singing group and gathered vivid tales from Canada's largest homeless shelter, the Calgary Drop-In Centre, teaming up with composer Marcel Bergmann to create a sweeping composition that gives voice to the streets. Members of the Drop-In Centre Singers performed in the original chorus and contributed writing to the piece.

REQUIEM FOR A LOST GIRL will have its Off Broadway Premiere this summer as a special event of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. Members from the original Canadian cast will join together with members of the New York music and theatre community, some of these performers have experienced or are experiencing homelessness and have contributed new pieces of writing to the libretto.

REQUIEM will be working with The youth shelter Covenant House, adults, youth and children from Henry Street Settlement, members of Fountain House; Project Renewal.

Onalea Gilbertson's show BLANCHE: The Bittersweet Life Of A Wild Prairie Dame premiered Off Broadway last fall as a special event of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. The piece was placed in the "top 20 shows of 2011 in NYC" by the Huffington Post.
