Queensland Theatre Co Presents Water Falling Down, Begins April 4

By:

Queensland Theatre Company presents the Australian premiere of Mark Swivel's Water Falling Down from April 4 at the Cremorne Theatre. Filled with laconic Australian wit and warmth, Water Falling Down is the story of a man's journey to reconcile with his ailing father while the pair tour Europe together.

The story reflects a real-life holiday Swivel and his late father took and the difficulties they faced while dealing with his father's aphasia, a condition affecting the brain's ability to process language.

Ron Haddrick and Andrew Buchanan take to the stage as the headstrong father and son who laugh and bicker their way through the trip. During their time together the father's condition deteriorates and the role of care giver passes from father to son.

"The phrase 'water falling down' was how my dad described rain after aphasia began to corrupt his speech," Mr. Swivel said. "The play tries to capture both a love of words and the anguish of losing them."

High-profile stage actor Andrea Moor, who starred in last year's sell-out David Williamson show Let the Sunshine, makes her directorial debut with the Company with this production.

"Water Falling Down is a beautiful and truthful portrait of a father and son reconnecting before it's too late, and reflecting on what it means to grow up, as well as grow older," Ms Moor said. "It's a strong story which will speak to all adult children and especially those of us dealing with the challenge of helping our parents age with dignity."

Cinematic projections of iconic European landscapes allow audiences to travel along with the characters and feel the romance and nostalgia of their life memories.
