QUARTET's Moye Headlines Tommy Newman 'Songbook Series,' 5/24

Broadway veteran James Moye will headline 'The Songbook Series,' directed by John Znidarsic, Monday, May 24th at 6pm at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. The concert, free to the general public, celebrates the work of up and coming composer and lyricist Tommy Newman.

Moye worked closely with Newman on TINYARD HILL, which debuted at Theatreworks in Palo Alto last summer, and earned the Best Supporting Actor in a Musical award from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle for his performance as Russell Kingsley.

"Being reunited with Tommy Newman is a true honor," said Moye, who is currently in the cast of the Tony-nominated Best Musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET. "And what better way to celebrate his work than to showcase it to the greater New York theater community."

Joining Moye at the Songbook Series will be the original cast of TINYARD HILL, including SFBATCC Best Supporting Actress recipient Alison Briner, along with Chris Critelli and Melissa WolfKlain.

Moye will sing from Newman's latest piece BAND GEEKS, playing at the Norma Terris Theatre at Goodspeed Musicals. The cast of BAND GEEKS will also participate in this exciting event.

The Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is located at 111 Amsterdam Avenue and 65th Street.

Earlier this month, Moye joined a star-studded cast in a reading of Bruce Hornsby's new musical SCKBSTD, scheduled to debut this January. The cast included J. Robert Spencer, Jill Paice, Tom Wopat, John Cullum, and Natalie Belcon. Moye is featured in the upcoming film 'Fair Game,' starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts.

Moye's Broadway appearances include The Fully Monty, A Tale of Two Cities, Ragtime, and Urinetown, and has toured nationally with White Christmas (Bob Wallace at the Ordway), The Drowsy Chaperone (Aldopho), and Little Shop of Horrors(Orin). He originated the title character in the world premiere of Meet John Doe. Moye was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of File 110 In The Shade at Signature Theater. He is a Council member of Actor's Equity Association, the governing body of the theater actor's union, and he is a member of the Screen Actor's Guild and American Federation. Moye earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from James Madison University.
