The suspense is over: the California rock band Avenged Sevenfold will be playing the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham on July 14. On July 9, Aaron Neville will open for the Elton John concert, and John Fogerty's concert on July 17 will open with The Sheepdogs and Andrew Cole.
"These artists are right in line with our choices for this year's programming, which includes rock superstars, big names in R&B and new southern rock talent," remarked Dominique Goulet, programming director for the Festival d'été de Québec.
July 14
Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) plays a hybrid mix of metal and punk-pop. Since it began playing in the late 1990s, the band was a longtime pillar of the California underground scene before moving toward a more easily accessible sound with its hit albums City of Evil and Avenged Sevenfold. Considered to be part of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal (in analogy with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal), the Ultimate Guitar website puts A7X number 2 of the 10 top bands of the decade, right after Metallica. These five musicians promise to pump up the crowd with a super concert!
July 9
Born in the 1940s in New Orleans, Aaron Neville first made his name as a member of The Neville Brothers and for his collaborations with Allen Toussaint. After opening many a major concert, he recorded close to a dozen solo disks and has won four Grammies. A versatile artist who plays both R&B and country, today he's into gospel... and is as popular as ever.
July 17
Alone with his guitar and his warm, intimate and natural voice, singer songwriter Andrew Cole plays the kind of melodious, original folk-rock songs that audiences just can't get enough of.
The Sheepdogs are up next with some old-time rock and roll that gets you movin' and groovin'. Inspired by the Allman Brothers, Creedence, Humble Pie and the Stones, these prairie boys are fresh and original but stay close to their 1970s rock roots.
Expect a great lineup of musical genres on the Plains of Abraham Bell Stage July 17!
DAY PASSES
Thousands of day passes for the Festival d'été de Québec are still available. Only two concerts, Sir Elton John on July 9 and Metallica, on July 16, are sold out. Tickets can be bought for the nine remaining dates, and because these tickets give the same privileges as the Hydro-Québec pass, festivalgoers can attend shows on the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham and the Molson Dry Stage at Parc de la Francophonie as well as all the indoor shows presented by Groupe Voyage Québec. For the Place Metro Loto-Québec Stage at Place d'Youville, the pass is preferable but not mandatory..
