As reported by BroadwayWorld, in November of 2015, the New York City Landmarks Commission approved plans to literally lift the Palace Theatre building 29 feet above the ground to make room for four stories of retail space.
The theatre's current tenant, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, is scheduled to close on January 1st, 2017, with no upcoming show scheduled to come in.
Today, New York YIMBY reveals renderings of what the DoubleTree Suites hotel site surrounding the historic theatre will look like once the redevelopment is finished. (See Twitter photo below) While the interior of the Palace Theatre is protected by landmark status, the exterior is not.
The plans will include an overall redevelopment of the 45-story tower and provide an LED screen that wraps from the southern end of the building on Seventh Avenue all the way to the eastern end of the building on West 47th Street.

Two weeks ago, BroadwayWorld reported that Cirque du Soleil and the National Football League plan to build a four-story NFL-themed attraction at the corner of 47th Street and 7th Avenue, across the street from the Palace Theatre and diagonal from the red staircase of TDF's TKTS booth.
