Plan-B Theatre and Meat & Potato Theatre Seek Participants Directors’ Lab

By:

Plan-B Theatre and Meat & Potato Theatre are seeking new participants for the Directors' Laboratory. 2-3 directors will be selected to meet once a month for 10 months, beginning September 2011, to discuss directing theory, script analysis, developing a concept, and working with designers and actors. Activities will include in-class exercises, outside assignments and guest lecturers. There might be an opportunity for directing participants to work on projects with the Playwrights' Laboratory - another Plan-B/Meat & Potato collaboration, both led by Tobin Atkinson.
The Directors' Laboratory is free of charge to all participants-however participants must commit to coming prepared to the 10 monthly meetings. Also, participants will be responsible for their own materials, ticket admissions to outside events and textbooks (currently there are 4 paperback texts to be used in the class).

To apply, prospective candidates should submit the following:

Contact information: Name, phone, email
Directing Resume
Statement of Purpose
A Director's Presentation/Pitch
Create a presentation detailing how you would direct one of the following one-act plays:
Exception and the Rule by Bertolt Brecht
Stage Directions by Israel Horowitz
The Actor's Nightmare by Christopher Durang
Aria da Capo by Edna St. Vincent Millay
The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter
The presentation should include a director's concept and all necessary materials supporting that concept. The supporting items can be written descriptions, pictures, music clips, swatches-whatever you need to best illustrate your concept. The director can include any other material they would use to direct the play successfully.

Deadline for all applications is 5pm on Friday, July 15. Mail materials to Jerry Rapier/Plan-B Theatre & Tobin Atkinson/Meat & Potato Theatre, 138 W 300 S, SLC, UT 84101. One packet is sufficient-materials will not be returned to candidates.
