Pilobolus Brings Modern Dance to Orpheum, 1/23
Omaha Performing Arts presents internationally acclaimed dance troupe Pilobolus at the Orpheum Theater's Slosburg Hall on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.
Hailed by New York Newsday as "a mind-blowing troupe of wildly creative and physically daring dancers who leap, fly, intertwine and break all the rules," Pilobolus is hardly a hot new sensation. Formed in 1971, Pilobolus began as an outsider dance company, and quickly became renowned the world over for its imaginative and athletic exploration of creative collaboration. But now, nearly 40 years later, with three artistic directors and more than 25 full and part-time dancers, Pilobolus' collaborative choreographic process and unique weight-sharing approach to partnering have garnered the group critical and popular acclaim from around the world. Pilobolus has also earned a number of prestigious honors, including the Berlin Critic's Prize, the Brandeis Award, the New England Theatre Conference Prize and a Primetime Emmy Award. Additionally, Pilobolus works appear in the repertoires of major dance companies – the Joffrey, Feld, Ohio, Arizona and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet.
