After more than 20 years, director Lee Sankowich proudly returns to Los Angeles' Zephyr Theatre with Deborah Zoe Laufer's critically acclaimed The Last Schwartz. Sankowich, who recently directed the record breaking Marin Theatre production starring Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry, has garnered an impressive cast for Los Angeles that includes Roy Abramsohn, Tim Cummings, Steffany Huckaby, Valerie Perri, Alan Safier, and Pamela Walker.
"The Last Schwartz takes place in the present at the Catskills home of the patriarch of the family who died a year earlier. The remaining family, three brothers, a sister, the wife of the eldest brother, and a young 'starlet,' have gathered for the father's Yarzheit (Memorial). Humor and fireworks result from their weekend together culminating with the revealing of a long kept secret that throws the family dynamics into disarray. Both funny and poignant, it has had great success in the three staging it has received. In its Marin theatre engagement, it broke all our box office records in the theatre's forty-year history," explain press notes.
Preview performances begin October 13; Opening Night is October 20 with performances through December 16. Show times are Thursday & Friday at 8PM; Saturdays at 8PM; and Sunday at 2PM & 7PM. The Zephyr Theatre Company is located at 7456 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA. For tickets ($25-$30) call 323-852-9111.
