Geraint Wyn Davies - the Welsh-born actor who won the Helen Hayes Best Actor Award for his acclaimed performance as Cyrano at the Shakespeare Theatre Company - stars with Drama Desk Award-winning Broadway actress Pamela Payton-Wright (Long Day's Journey Into Night, The Night of the Iguana, Mourning Becomes Electra) in Richard III at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.  The show began at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW, Washington, D.C.) on January 16, opened on January 21st and runs through March 18, 2007. 

Directed by Michael Kahn, Shakespeare Theatre Company's artistic director, Richard III features Davies in the title role and Payton-Wright in the role of Richard's mother, the Duchess of York.  Also featured in the 28-member cast are Ralph Cosham, Margor Dionne, Edward Gero, Tana Hicken, Floyd King, Claire Lautier, and Andrew Long.

"Treachery, manipulation, murder — are at the heart of Richard III, Shakespeare's tragedy about the power-hungry Richard, Duke of Gloucester will stop at nothing in his quest to secure the throne. The House of York's 'bad seed' seduces and slaughters his enemies, his kinsmen and even his own wife in a legendary reign of terror and villainy."  The production is presented as part of the landmark Shakespeare in Washington festival.
