Photo Flash: Jason Graae is Magically Delicious: A Cabaret

By:

Following Carol Channing (Hello Dolly! & Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), Richard Sherman (Mary Poppins & Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), Natalie Toro (Les Miserables & A Tale of Two Cities), on June 22nd and 23rd Cabaret at the Castle offered a sold out audience its next Broadway star with Jason Graae (Grand Hotel, Falsettos & Snoopy) in Magically Delicious: A Cabaret.

Highly acclaimed Broadway veteran Jason Graae performed his newest cabaret "Magically Delicious: A Cabaret" at the Magic Castle's Cabaret at the Castle. Beginning the evening with a "Magic Melody" that was in part tribute to both the role he originated as Harry Houdini in Ragtime and his vocal alter ego as Lucky the Leprechaun for Lucky Charms cereal. The 75-minute program flew by and before the audience knew it he was closing with an encore performance of a song written by Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. A uniquely hysterical and very original, though slightly disturbing, tribute to a new genre called the horror musical. Lyrics from various  popular Broadway hits were altered to reflect the terror theme that delighted the audience.

Jason Graae has starred on and off-Broadway in "A Grand Night For Singing," "Falsettos," "Stardust," "Snoopy!," "Do Black Patent Leather Shows Really Reflect Up?," "Forever Plaid," "Olympus on My Mind," "All in the Timing," "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh," and many more. In Los
Angeles, he just won his second L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award - the 2008 Joel Hirschorn Award for Oustanding Achievement in Musical Theatre and won an Ovation Award for "Forbidden Broadway Y2KLA!" Jason credits include "Marcellus" in "The Music Man " at the Hollywood Bowl, "Grand Hotel" and "The Grand Tour" at The Colony. On television, Jason has appeared on "Six Feet Under", "Rude Awakening," "Friends," "Frasier," "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," "Living Single," "Caroline in the City," "Providence," etc. On PBS, he was a guest soloist twice with the Boston Pops and once with Marvin Hamlisch and the National Symphony on "Holiday for the Troops at The Kennedy Center" and recently in "Words and Music by Jerry Herman." Movie appearances include the title role in "Sunshine Barry and the Disco Worms," Disney's "Home on the Range," "On Edge," "Gepetto," "The Dukes of Hazzard in Hollywood," and the upcoming "Awakening of Spring." Jason has recorded over forty CDs, including original cast albums, concerts, compilations, and his two solo CDs, "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile - Jason Graae Sings Charles Strouse," and "Jason Graae LIVE at The Cinegrill."

With the support of the Magic Castle's co-founder, Milt Larsen, Cabaret at the Castle's producer Matt Patton is bringing the art of cabaret to Southern California in an intimate and elegant environment. And soon to be announced Rachel York (Victor/Victoria & City of Angels) in "For The Love Of It!" and Florence Henderson (Fanny, Oklahoma & The Girl Who Came to Supper) in "All The Lives Of Me."

The Magic Castle is the world's most famous club for magicians and magic enthusiasts and home to The Academy of Magical Arts, Inc. The Magic Castle is the showplace for some of the greatest magicians from around the globe and houses one of the largest original collections of Houdini's great tools of the trade including his personal handcuffs, straight jacket, metamorphosis trunk and famous milk can escape. Houdini himself used these props to mystify thousands. Great pride is also taken in showcasing the magnificent building that houses the Magic Castle.

Magic Castle, 7001 Franklin Ave., Hollywood, CA 90028.

Construction of the building was completed in 1909 and the landmark that has overseen Hollywood's growth is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary in Sept. While enjoying the occasional and traditional Hollywood face-lift, the classic structure has never lost its original charm.
