Photo Flash: EL OGRITO Extends Until July 26 At 24th Street Theatre
The critically acclaimed 24th Street Theatre U.S. Premiere production of "El Ogrito" (The Ogreling) is extending its run until Sunday, July 26. The winner of Canada's 2000 Prix Masque Award and translated into eight languages, Québec playwright Suzanne Lebeau's stage work probes the monster within all of us. Adapted from the original French text, presented in Spanish with projected English super titles, Lebeau's internationally acclaimed coming-of-age story for all ages chronicles the struggles of a young boy born to a human mother and an ogre father as he tries to overcome his animal instincts and find his place in human society.
Steven Leigh Morris of L.A. Weekly proclaimed, "This compact tale contains a story of addiction, of heredity versus free will, and of war and peace - arriving at the final question: Can we contain ourselves? This is what we must now ask individually and nationally, as the world grows smaller, and the aggressions from which we derived our prosperity no longer work, or not as well as they used to."
