Photo Flash: Aaron Weinstein Makes NYC Solo Debut At Birdland
On Monday, January 4, jazz violinist/comedian Aaron Weinstein made his New York City solo debut on the Broadway at Birdland stage. Joining Aaron were two of the most revered performers in the history of jazz music: Janis Siegel from The Manhattan Transfer, and the legendary "King of Vocalese," Jon Hendricks. Each had a solo or two with Aaron and his band (Tedd Firth on piano and Steve LaSpina) on bass), then everyone joined in for a dazzling "Jeepers Creepers." In the house were fans from the Broadway scene (Christine Ebersole, Klea Blackhurst, Ted Sperling), television (Zach Braff) and film (Alan Rickman).
Tony Bennett calls Aaron Weinstein "the Groucho of the violin!" Aaron and his violin (and occasional mandolin) have been making waves in the jazz world since the age of sixteen, when he started touring the globe with guitarist/singer John Pizzarelli. In his Birdland concert debut, Weinstein performed songs from the Great American Songbook, including "Somebody Loves Me," "Jeepers Creepers," "I Won't Dance," "Cheek to Cheek," "Last Night When We Were Young" and "A Sleepin Bee."
