On Monday, November 16, 2009 two hundred and fifty people gathered at the Edison Ballroom to celebrate the 31 years of Arts Horizons. The evening was hosted by Lauren Glassberg of WABC-TV. Founded in 1978, by John Devol, Arts Horizons has presented programs to over seven million students, teachers and community members. Professional, dedicated teaching artists from Broadway, Lincoln Center and all over the world motivate young people through the arts to attain new heights of learning. The programs serve all populations PreK-12, with a special emphasis on at-risk students and those with special needs.

John Devol received the Celeste Holm Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Diane Passage. Celeste Holm age 92 years old was in the audience and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Arts Horizons since 1992. In his acceptance speech, Devol said," Looking back over the past three decades, we are committed to foster the development of the whole person by integrating the arts into the educational experience, and we endeavor to instill in students a knowledge of their own creativity. And when I play with Festival Brass and see those kids' faces light up, I know that it's all been worthwhile."

Four time Tony winner Stewart F. Lane and his wife, Tony winner, Bonnie Comley received the Paul Newman Award for Services to Children and the Arts. Lee Harris of 1010WINS presented the Paul Newman Award to his longtime friends Lane and Comley. Comley stated, "The arts are a powerful vehicle for communication, a way to express visions and emotions that are beyond the capacity of words alone.

The arts are peoples' connections to their past and to their own humanity. So, for Stew & I to support Arts Horizons, an organization whose mission statement is to foster development of the whole person and to improve education by delivering quality arts programs and activities to schools and communities is a perfect fit. We applaud John Devol for his vision to found Arts Horizons 31 years ago and congratulate him for his honor tonight in receiving the Celeste Holm Lifetime Achievement Award. "
