Mark Indelicato, Philadelphia native and star of the smash hit ABC Television series "Ugly Betty," returned to his hometown when he joined the faculty of THE BROADWAY DREAMS FOUNDATION'S (BDF) Summer Performing Arts Intensive Program. The 15 year old actor, who is best known as fashion-obsessed Justin Suarez on the Emmy nominated series, spent the day at the program participating in a Q&A session and performing alongside the students in the final concert. BDF's Summer Performing Arts Intensive Program was held at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (300 South Broad Street) Tuesday, August 4 through Saturday, August 9, 2009.
The goal of the non-profit BROADWAY DREAMS FOUNDATION is to bring young talent closer to their Broadway dreams, regardless of their financial status, through an intensive week-long Broadway training program lead by some of Broadway's brightest stars.
This Intensive also welcomed, among other talents, Eden Espinosa, Billy Porter, Paul Canaan, Blake Daniel, Lilli Cooper, Carlos Encinias and Dave Barrus, songwriter Jeremy Schonfeld, along with Broadway casting directors Craig Burns and Rachel Hoffman. The starry group performed with their idols in a revue style show, and auditioned before the casting directors.
The BDF Summer Performing Arts Intensive brings together faculty members and 150 students for the most demanding, inspiring and career shaping summer workshop in the country. Students auditioned for vocal placement within the program and will be invited to audition with NY casting director Craig Burns for a lead role in the final showcase. Each student's track is an individual placement to provide the best possible learning experience. During the course of the week, all students participated in educational classes on audition skills (focusing on song selection and cold readings) vocal coaching, pop stylings, career planning, college preparation, dance and head shots & resumes. A considerable portion of the week was spent rehearsing the final showcase - a revue style concert in which the students will perform alongside our renowned faculty. During the rehearsal period, BDF students learned first hand the dedication and talent required to put together a Broadway caliber show.
