Photo Coverage: Alec Baldwin's NY Philharmonic Rehearsal

On October 8, 2008, actor Alec Baldwin joined Baltimore Symphony Orchestra music director Marin Alsop conducting the New York Philarmonic in rehearsal for INSIDE THE MUSIC at Avery Fisher Hall on October 8, 2008 in New York City. Baldwin was rehearsing for his October 10th New York Philarmonic debut as the narrator for Inside the Music: Dvorák's New World Symphony. This multimedia performance explores Dvorák's trip to the United States in 1892, a trip that inspired the Czech composer with Native American and African-American musical styles. After Baldwin's narration of the journey, Alsop will conduct the New York Philharmonic to perform the music that Dvorák wrote based on his American experience.

Born in New York in 1956, Marin Alsop was appointed the 12th music director  of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in July of 2005. A protege of famed conductor Leonard Bernstein, Alsop holds bachelor's and master's degrees in violin from the Juilliard School. She has also served as the principal guest conductor with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the music director of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the principal conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Baldwin, who currently appears and won an Emmy for his work on the hit sitcom "30 Rock," recently appeared Off-Broadway in Entertaining Mr. Sloane. He received a Tony Award nomination for his work in the 1992 revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, and has also appeared on New York stages in Twentieth Century, Prelude to a Kiss, Loot and Serious Money.  His many film credits include The Hunt for Red October, Glengarry Glen Ross, Pearl Harbor, The Aviator and The Cooler, for which he received an Oscar nod.
