Photo Flash: Red Branch Theatre Company Presents WEB OF DECEIT

Red Branch Theatre Company, the professional theatre company in residence at Drama Learning Center, is pleased to announce their upcoming show in conjunction with the 30th Annual Baltimore Playwrights Festival. Web of Deceit, a new play by Colin Riley runs July 8-16.

Web of Deceit is an absurd drama about two young women, Keysha and Mia. Keysha, the one with a computer, accesses knowledge about the outside world and keeps in touch with all of her Internet friends, including Mark. Mia is constantly fighting with Keysha to check e-mail and Spacebook, but also longs to leave and explore what's outside. Mia also wants Keysha's attention, and tries to hold it as long as possible, but when Keysha constantly dismisses her, she threatens to leave. Then, Mark shows up at their doorstep. They can't tell who or what he is, but they want to listen to his message. Mia, scared of Mark, sends him away in the hopes that Keysha will share her computer with her. Yet Keysha still refuses to share her vast knowledge with Mia. The two women, never quite seeming to connect, drift to their own worlds.

This is Red Branch Theatre Company's first production in collaboration with the Baltimore Playwrights Festival, whose mission is to provide an environment that nurtures the talents of Maryland and DC playwrights. The BPF does this through public readings, discussions, critiques and workshopping of new plays. The summer season is devoted to the presentation of these newly developed works, for the entertainment and cultural edification of local audiences.

Colin Riley, author of Web of Deceit, is a graduate of Goucher College with a B.A. in English and Theatre. His Baltimore connection dates back to the night he performed on the stage of the Hippodrome Theatre with his high school in the Cappies program. He recently stage managed Red Branch Theatre Company's production of Hansel and Gretel, directed the staged reading of A Good Brain is Hard to Find by Becca Wyrick, and played 1st Batlen/Hasid in the Jewish Theatre Workshop's production of The Dybbuk at the JCC of Pikesville. This is his first real play since The Parody of The Odyssey never made it on to the stage in middle school. He is a native of Howard County, having graduated from Wilde Lake High School.

Web of Deceit is being directed by Red Branch Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Jennifer Spieler. Recent Red Branch directing credits include Hansel & Gretel, Proof, Sleeping Beauty, and Spitfire Grill.
