Photo Flash: Portland's Miracle Theatre Group Presents OEDIPUS EL REY, Now thru 5/26

By:

OEDIPUS EL REY, written by Luis Alfaro and directed by Elizabeth Huffman, runs now through May 26 at Miracle Theatre Group's Milagro Theatre in Portland, Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Check out photos from the production below!

The theater is located at 525 SE Stark Street, Portland, Ore. ADMISSION: $17 - $29; discounts for students, seniors, groups of 15+ and advance purchases. Tickets can be purchased from www.milagro.org or 503-236-7253. ASL interpretation will be offered at the matinee on Sunday, May 13, 2012.

Miracle Theatre Group will be presenting free conversations immediately following each of the three Sunday matinees, sponsored by Oregon Humanities: Sunday, May 6: "Exploring the Myth of Fate", Sunday, May 13: "The Lure of Gangs", Sunday, May 20: "A Gangster's Destiny."

With Chicano swagger and sly sense of humor, Luis Alfaro transports Sophocles’ tragedy to the mean streets of East L.A. Here Oedipus does hard time for ripping off a Costco, Jocasta splashes on the Jean Naté while glued to “All My Children” and the oracle takes cash only. But the word on the street is not good and the passion Oedipus has for one woman will violate our most sacRed Law. This play, which is presented in English with some Spanish, contains strong language and adult situations.

The Miracle Theatre Group has been dedicated to bringing the vibrancy of Latino theatre to the Northwest community and beyond for more than 27 years. In addition to its national tours, Miracle provides a home for Spanish and Latin American arts and culture at El Centro Milagro, where it enriches the local community with a variety of community outreach projects and educational programs designed to share the diversity of Latino culture. For more information about the Miracle Theatre Group, visit www.milagro.org or call 503-236-7253.
