Photo Coverage: Town Hall Presents THE BROADWAY MUSICALS OF 1982

The Town Hall, New York's landmark concert venue presented The Broadway Musicals of 1982 on Monday, May 16th at 8PM. Now in its 11th season, The Broadway By The Year ® Series is created written and hosted by Scott Siegel and produced by The Town Hall. In the series, Scott Siegel takes the audience on a musical travelogue, exploring the history of the Great White Way and providing social anecdotes while showcasing the beloved hits and lesser-known gems from the golden age of Broadway. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the concert and brings you photo coverage below.

The cast included Karen Akers, Tony nominated star of the original cast of Nine, The Musical who joined fellow cast member and Tony nominee Barbara Walsh to perform songs from the show. Cats original cast member Stephen Mo Hannan, who played Gus, the theater cat, recreated his role from the famously long-running show. Liz Callaway, who played Grisabellla in Cats for five years, reprised her role. Additions included Drama Desk nominee and Broadway By The Year® favorite, Kerry O'Malley. The evening offered something brand new to the series, as well, with the Mark Stuart Dance Theater making their Broadway by the Year debut. Craig Carnelia, the composer of the 1982 cult classic Is There Life After High School? was a special guest.

Next up is The Broadway Musicals of 1997 on June 20th.

The Broadway Musicals of 1982 is part of The Town Hall's 90th Anniversary season that includes Kelli O'Hara (June 3rd); Easy To Love: Andrea Marcovicci & Jeff Harner Sing Cole Porter (June 9th); and The Blue Note Jazz Festivals concert with Dee Dee Bridgewater and special guest Chrisette Michelle (June 24th).

Now celebrating its 90th Anniversary Season, The Town Hall was built in 1921 by a group of suffragettes and began as a lecture hall and public forum for debates where "American Town Meetings on The Air was broadcast live for 25 years. Over the decades, the stage has been graced by Eleanor Roosevelt, Carl Sandberg, Margaret Sanger, Billie Holiday, Igor Stravinsky, Bob Dylan, MiLes Davis and most recently, The Dalai Lama and President Obama. Today the hall flourishes as a popular, affordable venue, boasting the hottest acts in rock, pop, folk, cabaret, world music, comedy and dance, including Billy Joel, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Natalie Merchant, Graham Nash, Liza Minnelli, Cyndi Lauper, Norah Jones, Andre Watts, Henry Rollins, Joe Jackson, Pink Martini, Regina Spector, Brian Adams, Aimee Mann, Robin Williams, Dawn Upshaw, Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Al Gore, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Mercer, Jay Leno, Dave Matthews, Vanessa Williams, and Ben Folds. For over a decade, The Town Hall has hosted live broadcasts of Garrison Keillor's "Prairie Home Companion." In its annual show, "Rising Stars," The Town Hall gives recent graduates from the nation's leading performing arts schools a chance to showcase their talents and perform on the legendary stage. The Town Hall Educational Outreach Program helps schools build their arts programs and advance student learning through standards-based, collaborative arts residencies. Over the past two-and-a-half decades, The Town Hall has produced the Feature Film Seminar Series and a number of new and critically acclaimed musical series, which include Not Just Jazz, Broadway By The Year®, The Broadway Cabaret Festival and The Summer Broadway Festival.
