A black-tie dinner was held last night, June 23 at the Pierre Hotel in celebration of the best of British humor and entertainment to benefit the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and Young Americans' Challenge. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award was created by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1956. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award has been dedicated to the personal development of young people, aged 14-25, from all backgrounds. The Award honors those who have made great personal achievements in the areas of service, exploration in a challenging environment, skills and physical recreation. In 1988, representatives of the Award Programme worldwide founded The Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Association (also known as The International Award Association or IAA). The Association was designed to co-ordinate and develop the Award worldwide, and to uphold the principles and standards of the Award Programme. These principles and standards are set out in the International Constitution. All operating authorities, whether at a local or national level, sign up to this constitution.
