Photo Coverage: 'Practically Perfect in Every Way' Mirvish's 2011-12 Season

DO_NOT_LIVE_Photo_Coverage_Practically_Perfect_in_Every_Way_Mirvishs_201112_Season_20000101The much anticipated 2011-2012 Mirvish Subscription Season was announced yesterday, and the stars came out in support of the event. David Mirvish announced a season that is "practically perfect in every way" - a smart reference to one of the biggest shows to be coming to Toronto later this year, Mary Poppins. The announcement was held at the beautiful Princess of Wales theatre, with invites and official correspondence taking on a Mary Poppins theme. BWW was thrilled to be on hand to capture exclusive photos of the event to share with its readers.

The fabulous new season includes a North American Premiere, Canadian Premieres and both pre-Broadway and pre-West End shows. Star-studded and well diversified, it features both plays and musicals as well as a show so special that it gets its own theatre (The Railway Children) All in all there is something for everyone, which I think is what makes this new season such a winner. The four bonus shows are also spectacular, with something aimed for every type of Canadian Theatre-Goer.

The Subscription Season includes:

- The North American Premiere of The Railway Children (which will be housed at the new Roundhouse Theatre being built at Steamwhistle Brewery)

- The pre-Broadway run of Private Lives starring Canadian Kim Cattrall

- The pre-West End run of the UK hit Chess, the Musical

- The Canadian Premiere of Mary Poppins

- The Toronto Premiere of Blue Dragon

- The Canadian Premiere of War Horse
- The Direct from Broadway Smash-Hit HAIR

In addition to the seven subscription shows, Mirvish also announced four bonus shows:

- Ghost Stories

- Good Mourning Mrs. Brown

- Women Fully Clothed: Older & Hotter

- 2 Pianos, 4 Hands

Additional Details:

The 2011-12 Subscription Season officially kicks off May 3rd, 2011 at the Roundhouse Theatre with The Railway Children. Private Lives is slated for September/October 2011 at The Royal Alex, while Chess, the Musical will play The Princess of Wales around the same time. Mary Poppins comes in just in time for Christmas with a November/December run at The Princess of Wales.

The New Year will start with The Blue Dragon in January/February at The Royal Alex, and War Horse gets its Canadian Debut in February 2012 at The Princess of Wales. The Hair Tribe comes to town in March/April 2012 at The Royal Alex to finish off the season.

In addition to the subscription series and bonus shows, Mirvish also announced some of the exciting shows that will be offered to subscribers through the new joint venture with The Sony Centre. Announced earlier this year, the partnership brings Mirvish Productions together with Toronto's largest theatre, The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, to co-promote the Centre's visionary programming to the city's diverse communities, including its special outreach programs for children and youth.

Tickets to Sony Centre shows are made available to Mirvish subscribers at special prices and, when available, on a priority basis. The Sony Centre shows in 2011 available to Mirvish subscribers are:

LIVE UPDATE: WICKED vs. THE BOOK OF MORMON for Best Revival of a Play and More...

Kelly CameronKelly Cameron's love affair with the theatre began when she was just five years old, on an outing to see the Original Canadian Cast of Les Miserables at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. She instantly fell in love, and since then has been lucky enough to be involved in various theatre activities and productions, including a regional production of A Midsummer Night's Dream and a local production of Where the Sidewalk Ends. She has also received training from various teachers throughout Southwestern Ontario in both piano and voice, and competed in vocal competitions for which she received a few awards. Her writing career started almost by accident, when she had the opportunity to become a ghostwriter for up and coming businesses. She continues to do this, writing the content for all sorts of companies who are starting websites and looking to find their voice.

Her passion and love for theatre led to her becoming involved with BroadwayWorld where she is thrilled to be writing for the Toronto contingent of the rapidly growing website. When she isn't at the theatre, you can generally find her firmly planted in front of her trusty Blackberry - tweeting, Facebooking or partaking in other such social media activities to ensure that those who want to know are kept apprised of everything that Toronto theatre has to offer. Other interests include movies, art, music, shopping, fashion and martial arts with the occasional foray into the world of finance.
