Photo Coverage: More from Michael Feinstein's A GERSHWIN HOLIDAY at Feinstein's
For the show, Michael sings classic Jazz Age songs by George and Ira Gershwin from "Strike Up the Band" to "Love Is Here to Stay," while sharing unforgettable stories and reminiscences from the music that defined American popular song. The Gershwins and Me – ranked #1 at Amazon.com for all Arts Books and hailed as "a compelling work" by The Wall Street Journal – will be available for sale at the show. The book is published by Simon & Schuster. Nick Ziobro, the winner of The Michael Feinstein Initiative's 2012 Great American Songbook High School Competition, will join the engagement as special guest vocalist. Pianist and arranger Alan Broadbent, winner of two Grammy Awards, leads an all-star quintet. Special packages with signed books and a "meet and greet" opportunity are also available. The show runs now through Saturday, December 22 at the Loews Regency Hotel (540 Park Avenue at 61st Street).
Feinstein, the multi-platinum-selling, two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award-nominated entertainer dubbed "The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook," is considered one of the premier interpreters of American standards. His 200-plus shows a year have included performances at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and the Hollywood Bowl as well as the White House and Buckingham Palace. In 2007, he founded the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, dedicated to celebrating the art form and preserving it through educational programs, Master Classes, and the annual High School Vocal Academy and Competition, which awards scholarships and prizes to students across the country. Michael serves on the Library of Congress' National Recording Preservation Board, an organization dedicated to ensuring the survival, conservation and increased public availability of America's sound recording heritage.
