The American Theatre Wing and the League of American
Theatres and Producers presented the 2007 Tony Honors for Excellence in the
Theatre on Tuesday October 30 at 11:30AM at the world-famous Tavern on the
Green (Central Park at West 67th Street).
Awards went to Gemze De Lappe, world renowned dancer and
choreographer; Alyce Gilbert, longtime wardrobe supervisor – currently the
wardrobe supervisor on Wicked; Neil Mazzella, proprietor of Hudson Scenic
Studios; and Seymour "Red" Press, legendary musical coordinator and contractor.
Hosted by Tony Award Winner Tommy Tune, the event
featured musical performances by Patti LuPone, the cast of Young Frankenstein, Katie Adams and Julia Murney from Wicked as well as a performance from The King & I.
Established in 1990, The Tony Honors for Excellence in the
Theatre are awarded annually by the Tony Administration Committee to
institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated
extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the
established Tony Award categories. A
