Welcome to BroadwayWorld.com's newest photo series 'Photo Blast From the Past'. Featuring some of the collected theatre gems of BroadwayWorld's own senior photographer Walter McBride, the series will showcase images from his archives of theatre and Hollywood related stars.
Today, we bring you DREAMGIRLS collaborators Jennifer Holliday and Michael Bennett in 1984.
Holliday made her Broadway debut in YOUR ARMS TOO SHORT TO BOX WITH GOD at the age of 19. After winning a Tony at the age of 21 for DREAMGIRLS, Holliday performed in GREASE and CHICAGO. She has made a singing career, off Broadway, with eight albums and two Grammy awards.
Bennett choreographed Promises, Promises, Follies and Company. In 1976, he won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical and the Tony Award for Best Choreography for the Pulitzer Prize–winning phenomenon A Chorus Line. Bennett, under the aegis of producer Joseph Papp, created A Chorus Line based on a precedent-setting workshop process which he pioneered. He also directed and co-choreographed Dreamgirls with Michael Peters.Photo Credit: Walter McBride / Retna Ltd.
