Debuting in NYC this July 18th, at 7pm at The People's Improv Theatre is a fresh new take on the jukebox musical.

Pop! An anti-jukebox musical is one woman's journey into finding her father and gleaning advice from the Billboard top 40. Complete with derisive do-wop, uninspirational ballads, and self-aggrandizing 80's rock, this jukebox musical parody has a darkly comical throughline that can only be expressed in rhyme.

Form the writer/performer: "I believe it is important to create something innovative if you have the opportunity to perform solo work. It should hold a mirror up to society, but it's really fun to hold a mirror up to the entertainment industry because nothing goes unnoticed. I don't think audiences are dumb and they know they are being force-fed the same egotistical nonsense so it is the job of the indie artist to respond to that, by mocking it or creating something imperfect and honest, or hopefully both at once as this show attempts to do. That is our power."

For fans of "Forbidden Broadway" and "Book of Mormon", this will be a tart treat as compared with the saccharine sweetness of many a one-woman musical show, or many a musical show for that matter. Ellford has appeared in such downtown campy delights as: "Homo:The Musical", now appearing as part of NYMF, and "Rent a White Guy" about ex-pats living in Beijing. Regionally: The Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, The Studio Theatre, D.C. She can be seen improvising regularly at The PIT, UCB and all over NYC. Her writing has been performed at Manhattan Repertory Theatre and The Metropolitan Room. Collaborating with Ms. Ellford is Music Director Jamie Hazan. This will be her sixth solo show and most definitely not her last.

Pop! An anti-jukebox musical plays the PIT mainstage at 123 E. 24th St. New York, NY 10010 (b/t Park and Lex, near the 6 train, wheelchair accessible) on July 18th, 7pm. Tickets are $8.
