Pen Parentis Features Arthur Phillips, 4/12

By:

His books are in airport kiosks, his name graces the cover of the NY Times Book Review, his winning smile is everywhere. Now, just days in advance of his eagerly anticipated newest novel, THE TRAGEDY OF ARTHUR, acclaimed author Arthur Phillips will share an intimate stage with celebrated Chicago-based author Whitney Terrell and internationally travelled writer Roy Kesey on Tuesday, April 12th, at 7pm in the elegant Libertine Library at Gild Hall in Lower Manhattan (15 Gold Street at Platt) for the monthly Pen Parentis Literary Salon. The event is free and open to the public, with drink specials, networking opportunities, and book signings. Come early to guarantee a seat-this special event is likely to be standing room only.

"We are so flattered that Phillips asked to return to Pen Parentis," executive director M. M. De Voe said of her grant-winning Downtown reading series, "And thrilled that he's bringing a friend." Understatement of the year: Whitney Terrell has also written a NY Times Notable Book and has the additional experience of having been embedded with the 22nd Infantry in Badgdad in 2006 which is the subject of his current writing project. Roy Kesey, the third author featured April 12th, lives in Peru with his diplomat wife and their two children-his award-winning fiction has been internationally praised, and he travels the world to teach the craft of writing. Pen Parentis features his first novel, PACAZO.

Each of the luminaries presented April 12th are parents of young children, and each will have 20 minutes to present new work. The readings will be followed by Q&A and individual book signings. Pen Parentis Literary Salons are a monthly series of distinctive literary events which have won New York State and New York City arts funding and were nominated for a Neighborhood Achievement Award from the Mayor's office two years running. The public is warmly invited.
