Patti LuPone and Laurie Metcalf to Lead David Mamet's THE ANARCHIST on Broadway; Opening Set for Fall 2012

ANARCHIST-20010101Producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced that the American premiere of THE ANARCHIST, the new play about politics, money, religion and sex, written and directed by DAVID MAMET. The production will star two-time Tony Award winner PATTI LUPONE, who has previously appeared in Mamet's The Woods, All Men are Whores, The Blue Hour, The Water Engine, Edmond and The Old Neighborhood and three-time Emmy Award winner LAURIE METCALF, who was nominated for a 2008 Tony Award for her performance in Mamet's November. THE ANARCHIST, which marks the sixth collaboration between Richards, Frankel and Mamet, will open on Broadway in Fall 2012.

DAVID MAMET recently directed HBO's Phil Spector biopic, starring Al Pacino and Helen Mirren, which will premiere in 2012. PATTI LUPONE returns to Broadway this fall in An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, and LAURIE METCALF will star in the West End production of Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night, opposite David Suchet, in April 2012.

DAVID MAMET, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Glengarry Glen Ross, was last represented on Broadway with the critically acclaimed Race, which he also directed. He has also written Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Lakeboat, The Water Engine, The Duck Variations, Reunion, The Blue Hour, The Shawl, Bobby Gould in Hell, Edmond, Romance, The Old Neighborhood and the recent adaptation of The Voysey Inheritance. A two-time Academy Award nominee for The Verdict and Wag the Dog, Mamet's additional film credits include The Postman Always Rings Twice, The Untouchables, Hoffa, Ronin, The Edge, and We're No Angels. His nonfiction work includes The Wicked Son, True and False, and Bambi vs. Godzilla. He is a member of New York's Atlantic Theater Company, which he founded in 1985 with William H. Macy.


PATTI LUPONE (Cathy) was nominated for a 2011 Tony Award for her performance in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. LAURIE METCALF (Ann) is an original member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, now in its 37th season. She first appeared in New York in Lanford Wilson's Balm in Gilead at the Circle Rep Theatre in 1984. Since then she has had the pleasure of working on productions by amazing playwrights including Martin McDonagh, Terrence McNally, Don DeLillo, Caryl Churchill, Willy Russell, Alexandra Gersten, Beth Henley, Michael Weller, George Bernard Shaw, Tom Stoppard, Garry Marshall, Kaufman & Hart, Lynn Siefert, Bruce Norris, Sam Shepard, Alan Ayckbourn, Tennessee Williams, Harold Pinter, Jane Anderson, Arthur Miller, David Mamet and Neil Simon. She was last seen off-Broadway in The Other Place, a performance that earned her a 2011 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Play. She received a Tony nomination for November by David Mamet and three Emmy Awards for her work in the TV series "Roseanne." Films include Desperately Seeking Susan, Leaving Las Vegas, Toy Story, JFK, Internal Affairs and Uncle Buck.
