THE SKIVVIES

$30-40 cover charge. $25 food & beverage minimum.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! This "musically thrilling" undie-rock, comedy-pop duo don't just strip down their musical arrangements, they literally strip down to their underwear to perform their distinctive mashups and eccentric originals for cello and ukulele, with touches of glockenspiel, melodica, and a surprising array of under-used instruments. Award-winning singer-actors Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little, Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages) and Nick Cearley (All Shook Up) became YouTube sensations as The Skivvies, with living room videos that displayed their powerful harmonies as well as their powerful abs. Those clips led to live shows that The Wall Street Journal called "smart, sophisticated...ingenious," and Out Magazine, "The Skivvies have managed to carve out a niche that we never knew needed to exist: part Weird Al- parody and part sexy burlesque...and unusual explosion of satire and sultry." They also have a single and music video directed by Augusten Burroughs, bestselling author of Running With Scissors. They will be joined by special guest stars who will strip down and rock out. Expect a hilarious evening of genre-hopping pop perfection. Guests include for August 2: Perez Hilton, Orfeh (Legally Blonde), Andy Karl (Rocky), Kate Rockwell (Legally Blonde), Leslie McDonel (American Idiot), Greg Hildreth (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) and Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot).

Hailed by The New Yorker as "funny and touching, ceaselessly clever and scarily talented," Nellie McKay has recently finished an extended run in the off-Broadway hit Old Hats (winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Alternative Theatrical Experience and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revue) and has written two acclaimed musical biographies, Silent Spring: It's Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature, an exploration of environmental pioneer Rachel Carson, and I Want to Live!, the story of Barbara Graham, the third woman executed in the gas chamber at San Quentin. David Byrne tells The Wall Street Journal, "Her last two 'cabaret' shows I saw have been jaw-dropping. They both completely subverted the genre." Among Ms. McKay's charms, Mr. Byrne said, are the ways she playfully mixes what he called a "tragic noir vibe" with her "wicked sense of humor.'" For her 2014 show Nellie with a Z, The New York Times writes "[McKay] wears the mystique of a willful prodigy who is smarter, more talented and hipper than everyone else: a performer who answers only to herself. Gifts that others spend years refining seem to come naturally to her.... she can write and sing in any style, and you can't always be certain that one of her original songs is not an obscure period piece." Nellie's music has been heard on the TV shows Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Weeds, Grey's Anatomy, NCIS and Nurse Jackie, and McKay has appeared on numerous TV shows including Late Show with David Letterman (with the Brooklyn Philharmonic). In 2010, the Chase Brock Experience produced a ballet of Obligatory Villagers, and her writing has appeared in The Onion, Interview and The New York Times Book Review, where she delivered an incisive in-depth review of a Doris Day biography. Nellie produced her critically acclaimed, debut double album Get Away From Me with Beatles' engineer Geoff Emerick, followed by Pretty Little Head, Obligatory Villagers, Normal as Blueberry Pie: A Tribute to Doris Day, ("Among the killer overhauls of American standards" -The New York Times), and her latest, Home Sweet Mobile Home. She has won a Theatre World Award for her portrayal of Polly Peachum in the Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera and performed onscreen in the film PS I Love You, as well as writing original music for the Rob Reiner film Rumor Has It and the Emmy-winning documentary Gasland. Nellie will be performing with her band members, Alexi David on bass, Cary Park on guitar, and Kenneth Salters on drums.

With her huge belting voice and one-of-a-kind stage presence, Bonnie has also made a splash in off-Broadway shows including Jasper in Deadland and Cuff Me! This fall, she will leave NYC to originate the role of Pat on the first national tour of Kinky Boots! A Midwestern preacher's daughter, Bonnie grew up in a trailer without much money, dreaming of performing someday. When her parents divorced, she moved to Ohio. While attending college at Ohio State, a mentor told her she'd "never make it as an actress, because of the fat thing". Fearless up until that point, those words killed something inside of her. Upon moving to New York, Bonnie auditioned here and there but was typed out a lot - and started to hear the words of that mentor in her head, louder and louder. One day she decided to take a voice class at the Linklater Center, and during the class, she realized just how much those words 5 years earlier had affected her. After some therapy, Bonnie finally began to feel more confident and self-loving. She went to an open call at the Flea Theatre and got in! There, she met some incredible artists and began making connections - including with director/composer David Dabbon and writer Dick Scanlan, who asked her to premiere a new song in a concert. One thing led to another and before long, Bonnie was heating up concerts from 54 Below to Joe's Pub, with an agent, and a national tour to boot! Don't miss this sensational belting phenomenon in her solo concert debut, as she brings down the house one last time before she struts across the country in the national tour of Kinky Boots. With special guest Matt Doyle!

Joining in to welcome them to the big city will be some of Broadway's biggest stars and a Broadway band. Many alums from this 4-year-old series have already performed on Broadway and in national tours-and alumna Danielle Wade even won Over the Rainbow Canada, going on to star as Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of The Wizard of Oz. Be the first to see some of Broadway's next generation-and welcome them to New York!
