PULPITEER Premieres in Los Angeles, 7/15
On Friday, July 15 and Saturday July 16 at 8 p.m., Lee Boek will bring his "Confessions Of A Pulpiteer" to Art Share in downtown Los Angeles. Art Share is at 801 4th Place.
Boek, a long time fixture of Los Angeles activist theater, was a former child evangelist who traveled the country preaching for Jesus, and with that, wound up discovering some larger truths about religion, himself and the nation he toured.
He has been honing his "Confessions of a Pulpiteer" over the years, and most recently was presented at The 12th Annual River Stage Playwright's Festival of New Works in Sacramento and on cable television. When Boek did his show in Berkeley, the San Francisco Chronicle made it its "Pick of the Week."
"It's about fundamentalism when fundamentalism wasn't cool," he said. Boek had a turning point when he was preaching in the South, and got involved in the civil rights movement.
Confessions is a foot stompin, hallelujah show about life at the crossroads of politics, religion & liberation that you won't want to miss.
"Pulpiteer" is written and performed by Boek with musician Nolan Porter. Peter Kors is the director.
