PHANTOMS OF THE OPERA to Make World Premiere at Texas A&M, 4/4

By:

One of the world's most famous musicals is set to premiere at Texas A&M. Phantom of the Opera has been around for decades, and the story is centuries old. But now, a group of award winning stage actors are preparing a new-take on a story of fear and love. On a cloudy day at Texas A&M University, in a ballroom, beautiful music drifts across the air. Three people surround a piano while the ballroom is being set-up for an event later Monday evening. Rebecca Pitcher. Danny Zolli. Producer Neil Berg on the piano.

"In all of the versions we're doing, it's all very mysterious and each one of them is very different," explained Pitcher."I was a 'Phantom of the Opera' nut from the time I was seven years old and saw the Lon Cheney film," shared Zolli. "I know that there's other versions, musical versions of the opera that were major hits, but no one knows about it in the world, especially here in Texas," said Berg.

If you've never seen the musical or movie, Phantom of the Opera is known around the world. Berg intends to open your eyes to more. He chose Texas A&M University for the world premiere of The Phantoms of the Opera. It's a historical journey through the different iterations of one of the world's most famous musicals.

"Every night, every production, every different production is different and just amazing in the differences of the stories of each writer or composer took from the story to use," said Pitcher. "For 'Phantom of the Opera' fans, where these six or seven different versions of musicals being done out there. All telling the same story all in very very different ways, all so beautifully done, for a very simple reason: fear, love, passion," said Zolli.

"When people don't know what to expect, that's when the biggest impact can be made," said Berg. He hopes audiences take away a new outlook on A VERY OLD story.

This week is Phantoms Week on Brazos Valley This Morning. Viewers have a chance to win a pair of tickets to a performance. Neil Berg's The Phantoms of the Opera premieres to the world on April 4th & 5th at Rudder Auditorium on the campus of Texas A&M. The performance will close out MSC OPAS' 40th season.
