Prescott Fine Arts Association begins its 2010 - 2011 Season of Readers Theater presentations, in association with the Prescott Public Library, with the American classic, SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY at 2:00 pm on Sunday,  September 26th, located at the Prescott Public Library.  The play is written by Edgar Lee Masters, adapted by Charles Aidman and directed by Herb Voss.  Admission is free though donations are appreciated.  A discussion of the play will take place at the conclusion of the reading.

About the Play:
Edgar Lee Masters published Spoon River Anthology to great acclaim in 1915. His free-verse poems tore through the semblance of civility that covered an American small-town, and exposed the raw passions that controlled the lives of its citizens. Set in a cemetery of the fictional town of Spoon River, Illinois, (named after the real Spoon River that ran near Masters' home town), the monologues are delivered by the ghosts of the deceased, who voice the secrets they guarded during their days on earth. Speaking frankly of crushed dreams and concealed pleasures, the citizens are made equal by the great leveler of Death and no longer hide behind the courtesy and restraint that had so often repressed them in life.

About PFAA Readers Theater:
In its third season, PFAA is again collaborating with the Prescott Public Library to present a series of staged play readings, free to the public. Similar to mainstage productions, these are fully rehearsed, and will be performed in the large meeting room in the lower level of the Library.
Talented reader's theatre cast members deliver the dialogue using vocal intonation, facial expression and limited physical movement, with scripts in hand. On a professional level, many playwrights and/or composers and lyricists of musicals hold similar readings of their work looking for potential financial backers. Directors look upon this form of theatre as a way to broaden their ability to reach out and "test the waters" in different styles of theatre.

Spoon River Anthology is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French.
